The Big Economic Bomb (Video)

Image
The global economic status is at the cusp of major changes and with the fast tracking of the TTP, Trans-Pacific Partnership the changes could kill the middle class and leave the economy in a tail spin. The TPP is a proposed regional regulatory and investment treaty. As of 2014, twelve countries throughout the Asia Pacific region have participated in negotiations on the TPP : Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States, and Vietnam. In the video below, Dave Kranzler from Investment Research Dynamics.com is back to discuss the treachery of the United States Congress and Senate who have betrayed the American people once again by approving the fast tracking of the TPP, which Dave says is the death nail for the American middle class . How To Make A $10 Indestructible, Pocket-Sized Survival Fishing Kit

Image
When it comes to acquiring food in a survival scenario , I’d definitely pick fishing as one of my absolute favorites. And I say this for a few very good reasons, because quite frankly, I’d rather do less work, consume fewer calories, and spend less time in acquiring what I need in order to keep my core temperature at a happy, healthy 98.6 degrees. So, how can fishing accommodate such criteria ?  Well, I’m happy to divulge. First, as opposed to hunting, trapping and foraging, fishing is easy and requires comparatively little know-how. I’ve seen 5-year-olds beat 45-year-olds in how many fish they’d caught for the day, which is not exactly something that could happen with really any other form of food procurement . Second, you don’t need a gun, trap or guide book. In fact, you don’t even need to pack in a fishing pole, because nature has provided plenty of them (and they’re most likely scattered in and around your camp). We Prepare for Survival But Is It The Main Thing?

Image
In the past, I have written about the never ending list of things to do, the frantic pace of organizing preps, and the never ending quest to learn just one more sustainable skill.  Couple all of that with the burden of truth and knowledge that keeps you awake at night, and you have a recipe for frustration, exhaustion, and burn out. There goes those words again.   Prepper burn out . The truth is we all have a need for quiet, reflective, time whether we know it or not.  It is during that reflective time that we can think, really think, and focus on what is really important.   Is learning ten different ways to start a fire so important when all you really need is three? And who do you believe?  Is there any one expert ?  Or is everyone a beginner of sorts? More http://bit.ly/1BpIawg 'via Blog this'

Feds Steal $11,000 From Innocent Airport Traveler Because His Luggage Smelled Like Pot

Image
It is no longer safe to carry large amounts of cash with you when you fly or even walk through the airport. That’s because airport police are now using civil forfeiture – a common practice on the nation’s highways — to stop air travelers and seize their cash without even charging them with a crime Police stopped college student Charles Clarke at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in early 2014 before he boarded a flight and took his entire life savings of $11,000 because they claimed a checked bag smelled like marijuana , The Institute for Justice reported. More than a year later, he still doesn’t have his money back. No drugs were found on Clarke, who admits he sometimes smoked cannabis . He was never charged with a crime . Instead, airport police simply took the cash and let him go on his way. He was carrying the money because he was in the process of moving. “I saved up the money to use for living expenses and for future savings , and now it is ...

7 Common Bean Problems And How To Avoid Them

Image
Nothing quite compares to the taste of fresh beans directly out of your own garden. Visually interesting, easy to grow and relatively low maintenance, it is no wonder that these are a gardening favorite. Beans are legumes – that is, plants which grow pods which contain a single row of seeds. It can be argued that the common bean is the most important legume in the world. High in protein, fiber and complex carbohydrates , it is estimated that approximately 18.7 million tons are grown in 150 countries around the globe. There are literally thousands of varieties of the plant, but they all can be divided into two main groups. In one group, you have beans that can be eaten pod and all – such as your typical green bean. This group can be further divided into pole and bush varieties. This group of beans are called snap beans . In the second group, you have beans in which only the seeds are eaten – either fresh or dried (for soups, etc.). These beans are called shell beans. ...

5 Off-Grid Reasons Everyone Should Be Growing Aloe

Image
Aloe Vera is a popular succulent plant with a rich history . Aside from its beauty and ease of care, Aloe Vera is often used as an herbal remedy. It’s no surprise that the plant is referred to as “the burn plant,” “the wonder plant,” “the medicine plant” or “the silent healer,” in reference to its medicinal capabilities. Everyone should have an Aloe Vera plant, whether it’s in a pot on their porch or in their garden (zone permitting). Here are five reasons why. 1. Aloe is More Effective At Healing Burns and Injuries Than Typical Ointments For first and second degree burns you can’t beat Aloe Vera. Not only does the gel take away pain and cool the burn but it also speeds up healing compared to traditional ointments . In one study done at Naresuan University in Thailand, researchers found that participants who were treated with aloe gel healed almost nine days sooner than those treated with traditional ointments. Another Court In The U.S. Has Ruled Off-Grid Living Illegal

Image
Green living and sustainable energy are encouraged in Huntsville, Alabama, just as long as you do not practice such an off-grid life within the city limits. Marine veteran Tyler Truitt discovered that the hard way when the city condemned his off-grid retreat because he chose not to use city utilities – and a judge subsequently upheld the city’s decision. This year he installed solar panels in the front yard, a composting toilet in the trailer, and placed a 550-gallon plastic tank outside his trailer home to catch rainwater. But the city said he can’t live that way, and it has placed a yellow “unsafe building” sticker on the outside of the trailer. The home sits on two acres of land at the end of a road. A municipal judge found Truitt guilty of zoning violations , although he has appealed to the Circuit Court and wants a jury trial. The case has similarities to the one involving Robin Speronis, the Florida woman whose city told her she couldn’t live off grid . M...

Drowning Survival

Image
Summer’s almost here, and with school done for the year, many of our nation’s families will be traveling on vacation to the beach, lake, or other waterfront areas. They will be at risk for injuries, and one of the most harrowing and heartbreaking is drowning. According to a 2004 report from the World Health Organization, drowning is the 3rd leading cause of death from injury. From 2005-2009, there were an average of close to 4000 drownings annually in the United States. Non-fatal water submersion injuries are about five times greater; some of these involve brain damage that causes long-term effects. Drowning is seen much more often in males, and the younger the person, the higher the rate of risk (ages 1-4 years highest). It’s also the second leading cause of death from injuries in children 1-14 years old, surpassed only by car wrecks. More http://bit.ly/1Lfs9wf 'via Blog this'

Cancer Fighting Properties Found in Avaocados

Image
Rich, creamy, nutritious and now cancer fighting. New research reveals that molecules derived from avocados could be effective in treating a form of cancer . Professor Paul Spagnuolo from the University of Waterloo has discovered a lipid in avocados that combats acute myeloid leukemia (AML) by targeting the root of the disease – leukemia stem cells. AML is a devastating disease and proves fatal within five years for 90 per cent of seniors over age 65. Spagnuolo’s new avocado-derived drug could one day significantly increase life expectancy and quality of life for AML  patients. Worldwide, there are few drug treatments available to patients that target leukemia stem cells. “The stem cell is really the cell that drives the disease ,” said Professor Spagnuolo, in Waterloo’s School of Pharmacy. “The stem cell is largely responsible for the disease developing and it’s the reason why so many patients with leukemia relapse . We’ve performed many rounds of testing to dete...

World's Thinnest Light Bulb -- Graphene Gets Bright!

Image
Led by Young Duck Kim, a postdoctoral research scientist in James Hone’s group at Columbia Engineering, a team of scientists from Columbia, Seoul National University (SNU), and Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) reported that they have demonstrated — for the first time — an on-chip visible light source using graphene , an atomically thin and perfectly crystalline form of carbon, as a filament . They attached small strips of graphene to metal electrodes, suspended the strips above the substrate, and passed a current through the filaments to cause them to heat up. The study, ‘Bright visible light emission from graphene,’ is published in the Advance Online Publication (AOP) on Nature Nanotechnology’s website on June 15. ‘We’ve created what is essentially the world’s thinnest light bulb ,’ says Hone, Wang Fon-Jen Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Columbia Engineering and co-author of the study. ‘This new type of ‘broadband’ light emitter can be inte...

Mother Faces 30 Years In Prison for Using Cannabis To Treat Crohn’s Disease

Image
Last month, Kansas mother Shona Banda made headlines when her son was removed from her custody after he defended her use of medical marijuana to treat Crohn’s Disease . He had spoken up about her use at an anti-drug presentation at his school. This prompted the school to call to Child Protective Services and authorities, which led to a raid on her home on March 24. The raid found what local Garden City authorities described as “‘1.25 pounds of marijuana in plant, oil, joint, gel and capsule form and drug paraphernalia ’ along with what was characterized as a ‘lab used for manufacturing cannabis oil’” (it should be noted that at the time, the Washington Post reported police found just 2 ounces of cannabis oil ). Banda has seen her eleven-year-old son only once since he was taken from her. Last week, Finney County charged her with five offenses related to marijuana, three of which are felonies. They include “manufacturing a controlled substance , possessing a controlled substa...
