That’s because airport police are now using civil forfeiture – a common practice on the nation’s highways — to stop air travelers and seize their cash without even charging them with a crime Police stopped college student Charles Clarke at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in early 2014 before he boarded a flight and took his entire life savings of $11,000 because they claimed a checked bag smelled like marijuana , The Institute for Justice reported. Green living and sustainable energy are encouraged in Huntsville, Alabama, just as long as you do not practice such an off-grid life within the city limits. Marine veteran Tyler Truitt discovered that the hard way when the city condemned his off-grid retreat because he chose not to use city utilities – and a judge subsequently upheld the city’s decision. This year he installed solar panels in the front yard, a composting toilet in the trailer, and placed a 550-gallon plastic tank outside his trailer home to catch rainwater. But the city said he can’t live that way, and it has placed a yellow “unsafe building” sticker on the outside of the trailer. The home sits on two acres of land at the end of a road. A municipal judge found Truitt guilty of zoning violations , although he has appealed to the Circuit Court and wants a jury trial. Chef Ticketed, Facing $2,000 Fine For Feeding Homeless In San Antonio  Joan Cheever, founder of the nonprofit mobile food truck known as the Chow Train , was cited last Tuesday by San Antonio police officers for feeding the homeless in Maverick Park. Cheever has been serving restaurant-quality meals to the city’s homeless population for the past 10 years, and has been profiled on Rachel Ray’s cooking show for her charitable efforts. Over the years, police officers have passed by and waved as she fed homeless people, but last Tuesday night four bike-patrol officers stopped in the park and gave Cheever a ticket that carries a potential fine of $2,000 . Texas Man Issued 6 Warrants For Not Cutting His Grass, Given Jail Time  Rick Yoes, 58, of Grand Prairie, Texas found himself in trouble with the law when six warrants were issued for his arrest due to the unspeakable crime of not cutting his grass. Oh, the humanity — think of the children. In Yoes’ defense he may have not wanted to cut his lawn for fear that police would have confused a lawnmower as a weapon, and shot him dead. The trouble between Yoes and Grand Prairie goes back 19 years to when he originally moved in to the home in 1996. Yoes concedes in that time there have been a total of of 59 violations listed in Grand Prairie’s records. James Traficant, the Ohio politician whose career included 17 years in Congress and a conviction for bribery, has died at age 73. Traficant’s family had been fearing for his life since earlier this week, when he was critically injured in a tractor accident.  Traficant’s death comes years after he attempted a political comeback, filing to run for his old seat in 2010 as an independent in Ohio’s 17th District.
