The Greatest Water Crisis In The History Of The United States  What are we going to do once all the water is gone?  Thanks to the worst drought in more than 1,000 years, the western third of the country is facing the greatest water crisis that the United States has ever seen.  Lake Mead is now the lowest that it has ever been since the Hoover Dam was finished in the 1930s, mandatory water restrictions have already been implemented in the state of California, and there are already widespread reports of people stealing water in some of the worst hit areas.  But this is just the beginning. Right now, in a desperate attempt to maintain somewhat “ normal ” levels of activity, water is being pumped out of the ground in the western half of the nation at an absolutely staggering pace.  Once that irreplaceable groundwater is gone, that is when the real crisis will begin.  If this multi-year drought stretches on and becomes the “ megadrought ” that a lot of...

California To Begin Fining Residents For Taking Long Showers While The Rich Use The Last Drops Of Water For Landscaping  Gov. Jerry Brown (D-CA) issued an Executive Order on April 1 mandating a 25 percent reduction in urban water use across California. The announcement follows the release of recent data showing that Californians reduced their water consumption by a mere 2.8 percent in February, the lowest reduction in water usage since the State Water Board began tracking the data in July 2014. In January, Californians reduced their water usage by 8 percent, according to a survey of more than 400 urban water retailers. The governor’s latest attempt to crack down on those violating California’s water use restrictions includes a fine of up to $500 for each day the violation occurs. “In this extremely serious situation, the Governor is calling for immediate reductions. Californians need to step up now — especially those who have not been doing their share,” said State W...

( N.Morgan ) In the face of a devastating drought, the state of California has decided to cut the water off from the reserve this spring. This is the first time in 54 years that the State Water Project, will not provide water to millions of urban residents. The announcement does not mean that communities will have no water this summer. But it does mean that every region is largely on its own now and will have to rely on water stored in local reservoirs, pumped from underground wells, recycled water and conservation to satisfy demand.  Here's a few examples: San Francisco: This was the first January in recorded history with less than a quarter inch of rain. Through Jan. 30, the city had just one-hundredth of an inch of rain. Los Angeles: No measurable rain fell in Los Angeles during January for only the fifth time since 1878. Redding, Sacramento, Stockton: All recorded their third driest January. Gov. Jerry Brown has declared a drought eme...
